In this session, the cohort was introduced to three of the most pivotal roles in today’s project and delivery landscapes: Business Analysis (BA), Product Development (PD), and Project Management (PM). The focus was not merely on understanding each role in isolation, but on how these functions collaborate strategically across the project lifecycle to deliver value.
Strategic Role Overview
- Business Analysts (BA) – Serve as the bridge between business needs and solutions. They elicit requirements, analyse complex problems, and ensure that the project addresses the right challenges.
- Product Developers (PD) – Translate requirements into functional, user-centred solutions. They focus on designing and building products that deliver measurable business impact.
- Project Managers (PM) – Lead the execution of the project, coordinating timelines, resources, and risks to ensure delivery aligns with objectives.
Strategic Interconnection
A critical takeaway was that these roles operate in a dynamic, continuous feedback loop rather than in silos:
- BA defines what needs to be solved – clarifying the business problem and stakeholder expectations.
- PD determines how the solution should function – designing and developing in alignment with defined requirements.
- PM orchestrates execution – managing who does what, when, and how, while mitigating risks and ensuring accountability.
When these three disciplines collaborate effectively, the outcomes are:
- User-centric – solutions meet genuine stakeholder needs.
- Structured and aligned – responsibilities and processes are clear, reducing duplication and inefficiencies.
- Delivered on time and to a high standard – quality and timeliness are consistently achieved.
This session provided participants with a strategic overview of modern project delivery, illustrating how they can position themselves for roles across business analysis, product development, and project management, particularly in agile and transformation-driven organisations.
